Definition:
11 km long and largest island in Sjuøyane, north of Nordaustlandet

Origin:
After Constantine John Phipps, second Baron Mulgrave, 1744-92, British naval officer, leader of the expedition in 1773 to Spitsbergen in the bomb vessels "Racehorse" and "Carcass", himself in command of the former. A latitude of 80° 50' was reached. See also Cummingøya, Nelsonøya and Waldenøya
